Archives in AV production and postproduction environment

  • This presentation considers the applicability of various preservation strategies in the Audiovisual Industry with respect to common practice and existing restrictions. It points out the key factors affecting the role of the archive in production environment where audio-visual content structure, formats and distribution models are changing rapidly.
As certain types of organisation have their archive deeply integrated in the production process and its functional and organisational parts could not be easily distinguished from the rest of the structure, various workflows and strategies are explained.
With the emerging content distribution models where the constant material re-purposing is becoming a valuable source of revenue, priorities in archive operation could be shifted in favour of daily based operational needs. The implementation of emerging formats like AXF and the state of the art technologies is described and illustrated with case studies.
